Give Your Association Blog a Makeover
Updated: Feb. 16, 2015
Just like a personal makeover can put some pep in your step, a blog makeover can refresh the energy around it. Association members and prospects will enjoy the renewed look and it may even revitalize your interest in consistently adding valuable content.
Here are three easy ways to give your association blog a makeover.
Update Your Images
Does your association website use the same stock photo conference room images seen all over the web? While stock images can be a great solution for blogs, take a few extra minutes to find photographs that reflect your association.
If possible, try to use images that match your website’s color scheme and aesthetic look.
Images taken at association events can also be a wonderful resource for your blog. Hiring a professional photographer to attend an event may seem like a big expense, but you will in essence be building your own personal stock library for future use.
Change Up Your Fonts
System installed and generic fonts are free to use, but can also look dated and blah. Investigate sites such as dafont.com for more personalized, yet free, font options. Be sure to read the terms of service to confirm there is no charge when using the fonts for commercial use.
Many blogging services allow administrators to install fonts on their platforms. However, if this sounds intimidating or isn’t possible with your content management service, using your newly found fonts on images for headings is a great workaround.
Beautiful fonts can be a relatively easy way to update your association website; be sure not to go overboard, however. Stick to one script font used sparingly, and as an accent. Overall, try not to use more than three fonts total for best readability and a cohesive look.
Link to Other Posts
Linking to other blog content within posts is one way to keep blog readers on your website longer. Identify other blog posts on the same topic. You can either reference them throughout your new article, or provide a list of recommended content at the end of your post.
In addition to assisting your readers with helpful material, internal links can improve your search engine optimization. Try to keep it to three to four links within your content – otherwise, your site will seem spammy.
Updating your association blog’s visuals, such as images and fonts, is a quick and easy way to make it feel fresh and up to date. Linking to other content within your blog will guide your readers as well as improve search engine rankings.
