4 Ways to Prepare Now for the End of the Year
It seems to happen every year. In the blink of an eye, pumpkins are replaced with holiday sparkles. The last quarter of the year always seems to fly by. Luckily, there are things you can do now to prepare for the end of the year so it doesn’t leave you feeling flustered.
Here are 4 tasks you can start immediately to get a handle on the closing of the calendar year.
1. Thank Volunteers
Volunteers on the board or a committee are such an essential part of every association and local chapter, and you need to let them know just how valued they are. How will you be thanking your volunteers?
If you plan to have custom cards printed or anything else that will require printing/preparation time, now is the time to get these items ordered. Prevent the stress of making last minute decisions or having to pay for express shipping.
Next, use your association software to create a list of volunteer contact information, so you can send the cards as soon as you receive them. If you don’t have enough time to send the cards before the year ends, it’s never too late to send them early January. They will appreciate it then, too.
2. Use your StarChapter to review your budget status
Check your association’s budget. Are there any areas where you need to spend to meet your budget?
If you need to meet a budget amount in order to secure funding for the upcoming year, determine the best way to meet that and gather the board for a brainstorming session.
3. Look at year end meeting attendance history through StarChapter
Does your association typically have an end of the year celebration? Or do you skip a month of meetings due to the hectic schedules of members?
Review your attendance of past December and January meetings using your association management software and make decisions based on this year’s goals.
4. Schedule social media/other tasks in advance
Take steps to set up any social media, blog posts or other tasks in advance.
Motivation and time are usually both short towards the end of the year; so doing whatever you can in advance will allow for a little more leeway when you’d rather spend Friday afternoon having a long lunch with your team.
Taking the time to prepare for the end of the year now will allow you to avoid the hectic relaxed atmosphere. These four tasks will help you close out 2015 smoothly.
